WordPress 2.3

Before the WordPress Development Blog even announced it, I’ve upgraded to the 2.3 branch and everything seems to be going fine. Quite a few new features (a good list is here), and most of my plugins went through 2.3 fine. All except for the Google Sitemaps Generator, but a quick upgrade was all that was needed.

The UTW tag importer went fine, and I guess I’ve got to change some things around on the site to …

Intermittent Bandwidth Throttling

Over the past few weeks I’ve noticed a weird “throttling” effect on my Internet traffic. I’m on Qwest’s “Fastest” home DSL, and after I start up my BitTorrent downloading and uploading, it fluctuates. Every once in a while it will rapidly descend to 0 kb/s, and the connection goes dead, essentially. I can’t download, upload, surf the web, ping servers, and so on.

  • The style of the post titles …

Go to the Underscore Permalinks project page to download it.

Special thanks to Owen for the new plugin filter.

Melting Cow

This reminds me of the pig statues in Seattle, each with a different pattern and so on. If you look closely at the handle, too, it says “Don’t Lick.” Very cool.

Google Notifier Wishlist

Jealous of Microsoft Outlook users’ system tray icon notifying them of new messages, I’ve begun using Google Notifier to help sate this jealousy.

  • Growl support — why go through the trouble of using your own notification system? How about, if Growl is installed, use that instead? Growl has many advantages over Google Notifier’s built-in bubbles, and it would be great if this could be supported.
  • Google Reader support — Gmail, check. Google Calendar, check. Google …
